A FERRARI driver was arrested after his £227,000 supercar crashed with a Peugeot 206 leaving a 100-yard trail of wreckage.
The 208mph Ferrari FF tourer lost a front wheel in the smash which resulted in the both drivers being rushed to hospital.
Emergency services found the two severely damaged cars more than 100 yards apart in the village of Lyndhurst, Hants.
Pictures of the 6.3 litre red Ferrari show the airbags inflated and a wheel lying nearby on the grass.
The W-reg hatchback ended up off the road. Bodywork along the offside was peeled off by the impact and a large object appears to have smashed through the rear windscreen.
The door is also missing - apparently after fire crews had to cut the driver free from the wreckage.
A Ferrari dealership is just 400 yards from the crash scene, although it is not known if any of its customers or staff were involved.
The 40mph road had to be closed near the Bolton's Bench beauty spot, causing delays of more than two hours for motorists in the New Forest.
One local said she "heard a bang" and rushed outside to see the damaged Ferrari.
She said: “This sort of thing never happens along this road. Lyndhurst is very quiet."
South Central Ambulance Service said two patients were taken to University Hospital in Southampton.
Neither was in a serious or life-threatening condition.
Hampshire Constabulary said that the Ferrari driver was initially arrested on suspicion of driving over the alcohol limit before being taken to hospital.
The force said: “We were called at 2.04pm to reports of a collision on Beaulieu Road, Lyndhurst.
“A Peugeot 206 and a Ferrari were involved.
“A man was initially arrested at the scene but then de-arrested and taken to hospital.
“He is no longer under investigation for drink driving."
The high-tech Ferrari FF was the Italian maker's first ever four-wheel drive car.
